International Desk, May 11, 2025: Pakistan has expressed support for a U.S. proposal to mediate a lasting resolution to the Kashmir dispute with India, following a recent ceasefire agreement. Responding to U.S. President Donald Trump’s offer to ease India-Pakistan tensions, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, in a statement on Sunday, emphasized its desire for a permanent solution to the Kashmir issue.
The ministry acknowledged the constructive role of the United States and other allies in facilitating the ceasefire, stating, “We are grateful for the efforts of the U.S. and our partners, which have significantly reduced tensions and advanced regional stability.”
Pakistan welcomed President Trump’s interest in addressing the Jammu and Kashmir issue, describing it as a long-standing conflict with profound implications for peace in South Asia and globally. However, Islamabad stressed that any fair and enduring resolution must comply with United Nations Security Council resolutions.
The statement underscored that a UN-aligned solution would safeguard the Kashmiri people’s fundamental rights, particularly their right to self-determination. Pakistan also reaffirmed its commitment to working with the U.S. and the international community to promote regional peace, security, and prosperity, while expressing eagerness to strengthen ties with the U.S. in trade, investment, and economic cooperation.
