Pabna, May 11, 2025 : In a significant development, 18 officers and employees of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant construction project in Ishwardi, Pabna, have been sacked for violating service regulations. Additionally, for security reasons, the dismissed individuals have been barred from entering the Rooppur project site and the Green City multi-storied residential area.

The decision was confirmed by Ruhul Quddus, the site in-charge of the Rooppur project, on Sunday, May 11, 2025. Earlier, on May 8, a formal order signed by Dr. Md. Zahedul Hassan, Managing Director of the Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited (NPCBL) and Project Director of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, announced the termination. The dismissed employees were notified via email and through relevant higher authorities between Thursday, May 8, and Saturday, May 10.
According to the termination letter, the 18 individuals, employed by NPCBL and associated with the Rooppur project, have been relieved of their duties. The letter stated that they would receive three months’ salary and allowances as notice payment, as per regulations. Furthermore, for security purposes, the dismissed employees have been prohibited from accessing the Rooppur project area and Green City, with relevant departments requested to enforce the restriction.
Dr. Md. Zahedul Hassan, Managing Director of NPCBL, stated, “The termination of these 18 individuals was based on specific allegations of non-compliance with service regulations.”
Ruhul Quddus, the site in-charge, acknowledged the situation, noting that the head of the authority responsible for the security of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant had been informed and was aware of the matter.
The dismissals follow a period of unrest at the project site. On April 28, a section of NPCBL officers and employees launched a movement in Ishwardi, demanding the removal of the Managing Director and raising other concerns. They organized a human chain and press conference in Ishwardi town. The following day, they held a sit-in and protested inside the NPCBL office at the Rooppur project site.
