A shooting incident occurred on the Biswanath Gram Bridge in Sirajdikhan, Dhaka, targeting Junayet Sardar, a 23-year-old supervisor at the Vikrampur Model Town housing project in the Nimtala area. Junayet, originally from the Chapari Mosque area in Haladia Union, Louhajang Upazila, resides in a rented house in Hasanabad, South Keraniganj, Dhaka.According to sources from the housing company and local residents, Junayet was traveling to work by bus on Tuesday morning. Around 11 a.m., he alighted from the bus approximately 300 yards from his office near the Biswanath Gram Bridge. At that moment, three individuals on a motorcycle approached from behind and fired three shots at him. One bullet struck his right leg, and another hit his waist. When local residents rushed to the scene, the assailants fled. Junayet was initially taken to Nimtala Ideal Hospital by locals, then transferred to Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital, and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on the advice of doctors.
An eyewitness, a van driver who requested anonymity, recounted, “Suddenly, three people on a motorcycle arrived and fired three shots at the man. One bullet hit the front of my van, and the other two struck his body. I, along with others, took him to the hospital.”
Sohag Hossain, Assistant Executive Officer of Vikrampur Model Town, said, “While I was at the office this morning, I learned from locals that our supervisor had been shot. We believe the attackers followed him from Dhaka while he was on the bus.”
Abdul Malek, Managing Director of the housing project, told Prothom Alo, “To my knowledge, Junayet had no personal conflicts with anyone, nor does our organization have disputes with others. The police investigation will reveal who did this and why.”
Sirajdikhan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Abu Bakar Siddique stated, “This incident may have occurred due to internal conflicts within the organization. A case is being prepared, and operations are underway to arrest those involved.”
