Salahuddin Ahmed Responds to Jamaat-e-Islami’s Reaction to London Meeting

Dhaka, June 14, 2025: Jamaat-e-Islami has expressed concerns over a joint press briefing following a meeting in London between Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. The party believes the joint statement reflects a special inclination toward a particular political party, undermining the neutrality of the Chief Adviser.

In response, BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed addressed the issue on Saturday (June 14) afternoon. He stated, “This meeting does not indicate favoritism toward any party. On April 16, Jamaat’s Amir had told journalists after meeting a foreign diplomat that elections could be held in February 2026, before Ramadan. The election timeline announced after the London meeting aligns with that perspective. Therefore, there is no question of partiality.”
Following the London meeting, a joint statement indicated that elections could be held in the first half of February 2026, provided all preparations are completed. Besides Jamaat, the National Conference Party (NCP), which led the July uprising, also reacted, alleging that the government is prioritizing the demands of only one political party. The NCP emphasized that discussions on elections should be finalized only after implementing the July manifesto, reforming the judiciary, and announcing a roadmap.

Addressing NCP’s concerns, Salahuddin Ahmed remarked, “The NCP is viewing the London meeting’s announcement from a partisan perspective. I advise them to rise above party interests, focus on the broader national interest, and gain more experience.”

The reactions from Jamaat and Salahuddin’s statements have sparked significant discussions in political circles. Analysts believe the London meeting and its outcomes could add new momentum to Bangladesh’s political Landscape.
