The government is considering allocating a portion of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds to the sports sector, according to Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Advisor to the Ministry of Youth and Sports. He made these remarks on Friday following the inauguration of the Mymensingh Divisional Tennis Competition at the Ramna Tennis Complex.
Asif Mahmud stated, “In the past, an estimated Tk 4,500 crore was allocated for stadium construction. If those funds had been directed to the sports ministry, significant progress could have been made in the sector.” He emphasized the need to move away from the misconception that sports should only be pursued professionally.
He further noted, “Since taking office, I haven’t been able to focus much on sports. However, I am now actively engaging in various sports initiatives.” He pointed out that the current generation faces numerous challenges due to a lack of involvement in sports.
Regarding the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), he confirmed that the BCB elections will take place as scheduled. The government has the authority to evaluate the performance of directors nominated by the National Sports Council, while the BCB will assess the performance of its elected directors
