Travel Ban Imposed on Actress Shaon, Former DB Chief Harun, and 10 Others

Dhaka, May 22, 2025: A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on actress Meher Afroz Shaon, former Detective Branch (DB) chief Harun Or Rashid, and 10 others in connection with a case filed by Shaon’s stepmother, Nishi Islam, alleging attempted murder and assault. The order was issued by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanaullah on Thursday following a petition by the plaintiff.

The other accused under the travel ban include former ADC of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s CTTC unit Nazmul Islam, Shaon’s father Engineer Mohammad Ali, her sister Mahin Afroz Shinjon, Sejuti, Sabbir, Subrata Das, Mainul Hossain, Police Inspector Saiful Islam Bhuiyan, Sub-Inspector Shah Alam, and Mokhlesur Rahman Milton. Of them, Saiful Islam Bhuiyan and Shah Alam are out on bail, while the remaining 10 are absconding. Arrest warrants were issued against them on April 22.
According to court sources, the plaintiff’s lawyer, Advocate Md. Pintu, filed a petition to prevent the accused from leaving the country. The court granted the plea and set July 1 as the next hearing date.
The case, filed on March 13, alleges that on February 21, 2024, Mohammad Ali married Nishi Islam with a dowry of Tk 50 lakh, concealing his prior marriage and children. When Nishi discovered the deception, Shaon, her sister Shinjon, and others allegedly threatened and assaulted her. On March 4, Nishi was forcibly removed from a Gulshan residence. Later, Shaon and others, including ADC Nazmul, allegedly attempted to force her to sign blank papers and assaulted her. Additionally, Nishi was called to the DB office, where she was tortured and falsely implicated as a drug dealer, according to the complaint.
