May 11, 2025 : The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecasted thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and rain in eight regions, including Dhaka, by 1:00 AM tonight. A cautionary signal has been issued for river ports in these areas.
According to a weather bulletin issued by Meteorologist Md. Shahinul Islam on Sunday (May 11), regions including Rangpur, Dhaka, Faridpur, Tangail, Mymensingh, Cumilla, Chattogram, and Sylhet may experience temporary gusty winds blowing from the west/northwest at speeds of 45-60 km/h, along with rain or thunderstorms. River ports in these regions have been instructed to display cautionary signal number 1.
The weather office further stated that by 6:00 PM tomorrow, some areas in Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, along with a few places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, and Chattogram divisions, may witness temporary gusty winds, lightning, and rain or thunderstorms. Elsewhere, the weather is likely to remain mainly dry with partly cloudy skies. Daytime temperatures in Khulna division are expected to remain nearly unchanged, while other regions may see a decrease of 1-3°C. Nighttime temperatures across the country are likely to remain steady.
The department also noted that severe heatwaves are currently affecting Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajganj, Rajbari, Khulna, Chuadanga, Meherpur, and Jessore districts. Mild to moderate heatwaves are prevailing in the remaining parts of Rajshahi and Khulna divisions, as well as Dhaka, Chattogram, Barishal, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Gaibandha, Mymensingh, Jamalpur, and Sherpur districts. These heatwaves may subside in some areas.
