Kurigram, May 12, 2025: In a chilling incident in Kurigram Sadar Upazila’s Holokhana Union, Kagzipara area, a couple killed their own daughter, Jannati Khatun (15), to frame their rival in a land dispute. The police have arrested the victim’s father, Zahidul Islam (45), mother, Mosha. Morsheda Begum (38), and aunt, Mosha. Shahinur Begum (45), in connection with the murder.
According to police, Zahidul Islam had a long-standing dispute with his neighbor, Mozibar Rahman, over 32 bighas of land. To implicate Mozibar, Zahidul, with the help of his wife and sister-in-law, hatched a plan and brutally murdered Jannati, a ninth-grade student, on Saturday night. The perpetrators attacked her with a rod and a machete, dumped her body in a cornfield, and set it on fire.
Following the incident, Jannati’s uncle, Md. Khalil Haque (55), filed a case at Kurigram Police Station. Within just four hours of investigation, the police unraveled the mystery behind the killing and arrested Zahidul, Morsheda, and Shahinur. The accused confessed to their crime in court.
Kurigram District Police’s media officer and OC (DB) Bozlar Rahman confirmed, “Through the coordinated efforts of the investigation officer and DB police, we managed to uncover the truth behind this heinous murder. The accused have admitted their guilty.
