Five Indian Soldiers Killed in ‘Operation Sindoor,’ Says Indian Army

International Desk, May 11, 2025 : In a military offensive named ‘Operation Sindoor’ launched in response to an attack by gunmen in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Army has lost five soldiers, the military announced on Saturday. During a briefing in New Delhi, the Indian Army stated, “We have lost five of our armed forces colleagues. Their sacrifice will forever be remembered.”

According to the Indian Army, between May 7 and May 10, heavy artillery and firearm exchanges along the Line of Control (LoC) resulted in the deaths of approximately 35 to 40 Pakistani soldiers. The operation began on May 7, targeting nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir with missile and drone strikes. The offensive was initiated following allegations of Pakistan’s involvement in the Poonch attack, which India claims was orchestrated to destabilize the region. Pakistan retaliated by targeting Indian military installations.
The Indian Army stated that its strikes targeted infrastructure in Pakistan allegedly used for terrorist attacks in India. “When they attempted to infiltrate our airspace and attack our infrastructure, we responded with heavy weaponry, likely causing casualties on their side,” the army said, adding that a detailed assessment of the strikes is underway.
On Saturday, a US-mediated ceasefire agreement was signed between India and Pakistan. However, within hours, both sides accused each other of violating the truce, leading to renewed cross-border attacks. Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, addressing a special briefing, warned that any further violations by Pakistan would be met with a strong response. He confirmed sending a hotline message to the Pakistani Army Chief regarding India’s commitment to retaliate if the ceasefire is breached.
The conflict traces back to April 22, when an attack in Poonch by unidentified gunmen killed 25 Indian citizens, mostly tourists, and one Nepali national. India has accused Pakistan of orchestrating the attack, a claim Pakistan denies. Operation Sindoor was launched nearly two weeks later, with India claiming it targeted only terrorist bases.
