Dhaka University Mourns as Slain Student Shahriar Alam Samya Returns to Campus for Final Farewell

Dhaka, May 14, 2025: Shahriar Alam Samya, a Dhaka University student brutally stabbed to death at Suhrawardy Udyan, was brought back to his campus for the last time on Wednesday.

The university’s central mosque will host his first Janaza prayer after Zohr, as confirmed by Rakibul Islam Rakib, Central President of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.

Samya, a 2018-19 batch student at the Institute of Education and Research (IER) and Literature and Publication Secretary of the Sir AF Rahman Hall Chhatra Dal unit, was brought to his department around 12 PM. His classmates, overcome with grief, broke down in tears upon his arrival.
The tragic incident occurred around midnight on Tuesday near the open stage of Suhrawardy Udyan, where miscreants attacked Samya with knives. His friends rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMC) in critical condition, but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Bayezid, an injured classmate, recounted the attack: “We were leaving the canteen when a group of 8-10 people surrounded us. Without warning, they attacked. Samya was stabbed multiple times, bleeding heavily and collapsing quickly. We took him to the hospital, but the doctors said nothing could be done.”
Samya, a resident of Room 222 in Sir AF Rahman Hall, was an active Chhatra Dal member. His death has plunged the Dhaka University community into mourning, with students and faculty expressing profound sorrow.
