Dhaka, May 12, 2025 : A court in Narayanganj has rejected the bail application of Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy, former mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation, and ordered her to be sent to prison.
On Monday (May 12), Judicial Magistrate Second Court Judge Shamsur Rahman passed the order. However, following a plea from Ivy’s legal team, the court granted her division status in prison.
Ivy’s lawyers argued that she did not participate in the July movement protests. They also raised objections to her arrest, pointing out that Shamia Osman was allowed to leave the country without hindrance.
Advocate Mahbubur Rahman Masum stated, “We sought bail, but the court did not grant it. We will now apply for bail in the High Court.”
Earlier, law enforcement officials raided Ivy’s residence on Thursday night. She was arrested on Friday morning in connection with a case filed at Siddhirganj Police Station regarding the murder of garment worker Minarul. The court subsequently sent her to jail custody.
