ACC Conducts Raid Over Alleged Embezzlement in SEDP Book Procurement

Dhaka, May 12, 2025 : The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an enforcement operation following allegations of financial embezzlement in the procurement of textbooks under the Secondary Education Development Program (SEDP), a project overseen by the Ministry of Education.

According to a statement from the ACC’s public relations office, the raid was conducted on Monday, May 12, from the commission’s headquarters in Dhaka. The operation targeted the “Strengthening Reading Habit and Reading Skills Among Secondary Students” scheme, which has been operational since 2021.
Sources from the raid revealed that approximately Tk 101 crore has been spent under this scheme to date, covering expenses such as book printing, field-level activities, salaries and allowances for officials and staff, and training programs. The ACC team collected relevant records and documents for further scrutiny to verify the allegations of financial irregularities.
The commission is expected to analyze the gathered information and submit a detailed report to its authorities. Further actions will depend on the findings of this investigation.
The ACC’s operation underscores its ongoing efforts to curb corruption and ensure transparency in public-funded projects.
