The three individuals repatriated from Malaysia had expired visas and are not terrorists, according to Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
Speaking to the press on Sunday (6 July) during a visit to the Export Cargo Village at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, the Home Affairs Adviser responded to questions about the detainees. In response to claims that several terrorists were arrested in Malaysia and sent back to Bangladesh, and that various agencies have stated there are no terrorists in Bangladesh, Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, “The Foreign Ministry has already issued a press release clarifying that there are no terrorists in Bangladesh. The three individuals repatriated from Malaysia primarily had expired visas. The five others mentioned by the police chief have not arrived. We are trying to communicate at a government level and will investigate further.” When asked if any terrorist activities were detected in Bangladesh, he stated, “There is no involvement of these individuals (arrested in Malaysia) in Bangladesh.
When questioned about the Malaysian Inspector General of Police’s claim that the detained Bangladeshis were collecting funds for ISIS, the Home Affairs Adviser said, “I am not aware of what the Malaysian IGP has said. We have received a message, but no official communication at the government level. The message we received was addressed through a press release by our Foreign Ministry.”
When asked if there is an attempt by various countries to label Bangladesh negatively, he responded, “The Foreign Ministry can provide better clarity on this matter.
