On Friday (June 27) afternoon, Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, stated during a press interaction at his Gulshan residence in the capital that while all political parties are in agreement regarding the national election, holding local government elections within the announced timeframe is impossible. He said, “There is no scope for holding local government elections. The struggle so far has been for the national election, not for local elections. The primary task of the Election Commission is to organize the national election.”
Commenting on the recent meeting between the Chief Adviser and the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Salahuddin Ahmed said, “BNP believes that the Chief Adviser and the CEC discussed holding the national election in February. We think it is possible to complete preparations for the election by September. The Chief Adviser might have conveyed a message to the CEC to prepare for the election in February. The matter will become clearer once we receive clear messages from both sides.”
He further emphasized that BNP’s primary focus is on the national election, which remains the party’s key objective.
