Joypurhat, 05 June, 2025 : The army intervened at the Fuldighi Haat livestock market in Khetlal Upazila, Joypurhat, following complaints of excessive toll collection. After confirming the allegations, the army ensured that the leaseholder refunded the excess tolls to the affected buyers. The incident took place on Thursday (June 5, 2025) in the afternoon at the Fuldighi Bazar livestock market.
Reports indicate that several buyers were charged tolls higher than the designated rate while purchasing goats at the market, leading to discontent among locals. Upon receiving the information, a team of army personnel on duty visited the site, conducted an investigation, and verified the overcharging. Following their intervention, the market leaseholder returned the excess amounts to the affected buyers.
Anarul Islam, a ward BNP leader responsible for managing the market, confirmed that 350 taka was charged instead of the stipulated 300 taka. The excess amount was refunded after the army’s intervention. He added that measures would be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
Local residents expressed relief at the army’s prompt action and called for continued administrative oversight. Since the start of the Qurbani livestock markets, Khetlal Upazila Executive Officer Al Jinat has been conducting mobile courts at various markets to prevent excessive toll collection.
