Kushtia, May 13, 2025 : In a shocking incident stemming from domestic disputes, a young man named Mamun Ali allegedly attempted to kill his wife and two young daughters before trying to take his own life by slitting his throat in Kushtia town. The incident occurred in the Harishankarpur area on Tuesday evening, leaving all four individuals critically injured and admitted to Kushtia General Hospital.
The victims have been identified as Mamun Ali, son of Robiul Islam from Harishankarpur, his wife Meghla, their four-year-old daughter Kulsum, and one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Jannat. According to family members, neighbors, and relatives, the incident was triggered by ongoing marital discord, with allegations that Meghla was involved in an extramarital affair. Frequent arguments between the couple reportedly escalated on Tuesday evening, leading Mamun to violently attack his wife with a sharp weapon in an attempt to kill her. He also allegedly beat and threw his two young daughters, causing severe injuries. Subsequently, Mamun used a sharp object to slit his own throat in an apparent suicide attempt.
A neighbor, Swapna Khatun, recounted the events, stating that Meghla had previously left home but returned to live with Mamun. On Tuesday, Mamun attacked his wife with a sharp weapon, beat their daughters, and then attempted suicide. Neighbors rushed the critically injured family to Kushtia General Hospital for treatment.
Doctors at the hospital confirmed that all four victims sustained severe injuries from physical assault and sharp weapon attacks, and their conditions remain critical. The medical team is providing intensive care to stabilize them.
Kushtia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mosharraf Hossain confirmed the incident, stating that it arose from domestic disputes. The police are investigating the matter and will take appropriate legal action based on their findings.
