Cox’s Bazar, May 21, 2025: The US Army and Air Force conducted a training program for Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel at Cox’s Bazar sea beach. The four-day course, which began on Sunday, May 18, and concluded on Wednesday, May 21, focused on rescue techniques for flood, flash flood, and cyclone victims.
According to Anwarul Islam Dolon, an official from the Fire Service Headquarters’ media cell, the training was organized by the US Embassy in Dhaka. It covered rescue operations for people stranded in floods and cyclones, with practical sessions held at Inani Beach and various swimming pools in Cox’s Bazar.
Mohammad Tanharul Islam, Deputy Assistant Director of Cox’s Bazar Fire Service and Civil Defence, confirmed that 15 officers and firefighters from Cox’s Bazar participated in the program. The training concluded on Wednesday morning at the parasailing point of Cox’s Bazar beach, where certificates were distributed to participants by the US trainers.
Tanharul Islam emphasized that the training equipped participants with skills to rescue individuals trapped in floods or cyclones, including techniques for saving people swept away by water. The program was conducted with support from the US Embassy.
However, photos of the training circulating on social media sparked negative comments from some netizens. Certain posts claimed the initiative was a preliminary step toward establishing a US "corridor" in the region. Tanharul Islam dismissed these claims, stating, “There’s no corridor or anything like that. This was purely a training program. The trainers will leave Cox’s Bazar today after its completion.”
