Kushtia, May 14, 2025: A tragic incident unfolded in Kushtia’s Harishankarpur area on Tuesday night, where Mamun Ali allegedly killed his wife, Meghla Khatun, and critically injured their two young daughters, Kulsum (4) and Jannat (1.5), in a violent attack fueled by suspicions of infidelity. Mamun also attempted suicide and is currently under treatment along with his daughters at Kushtia General Hospital.
The incident occurred around 8:30 PM on May 13, 2025, at their residence. Mamun reportedly attacked Meghla (22) with a sharp weapon, inflicting fatal wounds. She succumbed to her injuries at Kushtia General Hospital around 11:00 PM. During the attack, Mamun also assaulted his daughters, causing severe injuries to their heads, faces, and bodies. The two children are in critical condition, writhing in pain with saline drips attached. Mamun, who later turned the weapon on himself, sustained serious injuries to his head and neck.
According to Mamun’s mother, Sufia Begum, the couple had ongoing disputes due to Meghla’s alleged extramarital affair. “Meghla had left home earlier and was brought back two days ago. That night, Mamun caught her talking to someone on the phone, which led to the violent outburst,” she said. Neighbors and relatives corroborated that Meghla’s alleged infidelity had caused frequent arguments, culminating in the tragic event.
Dr. Hosain Imam, Residential Medical Officer at Kushtia General Hospital, confirmed that all three victims were struck on the head with a sharp object. “The mother passed away at 11:00 PM. The condition of the two children remains critical,” he said.
Kushtia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mosharraf Hossain stated, “The incident stemmed from domestic disputes. We are investigating, and legal action will follow.” No case has been filed yet.
The two children, unaware of their mother’s death, continue to battle for their lives in the hospital.
